I don’t usually do single reviews, but occasionally a song stands out and makes me take notice, like really take notice and listen. This band ‘Larsen’ from Adelaide did that. Continue reading Larsen – Yours Sincerely (single) 2020

Rosella – EP (2019)
Combining twinkly mid-west indie styling’s with some bridging math-rock idea’s and dreamy ambient scores, this EP release from Adelaide group ‘Rosella’ is going to land a hit with fans of that sound.

Bonniesongs – Energetic Mind (Art as Catharsis) 2019
Hype. While I normally feature harder music (as is my preference) sometimes a curve ball comes along that just floors me as a listener and it doesn’t matter what ‘genre’ tag fits…the only thing I can say is this one of the best albums of 2019. Easily. Continue reading Bonniesongs – Energetic Mind (Art as Catharsis) 2019
Talk Less: A decade of D.I.Y. by Lesstalk Records
‘Talk Less’ is a book available both in print and digital format which chronicles 10 years of the dedicated underground DIY label in Australia. It’s filled with candid and intense photos of shows, living rooms, laneways and garages getting filled with people, music, art and being torn apart!
You probably weren’t there. It wasn’t a big deal. The shows, these releases and artists aren’t trying to get all the attention. They aren’t necessarily trying to break through. They’re trying to be relevant and honest. So this book documents how Matheson and his people brought it all into being via that same organic zero-bullshit way. So here’s an answer for the question ’what bands should I start listening to?’ WITHOUT the judgement you’d expect from elite scenesters and keyboard warriors. Love Games – Nothing Ever Moves You (2017)
Debut full length from indie rock outfit that owes a lot to the Cure and Balance and Composure..but seriously..how could that ever be a bad thing? Continue reading Love Games – Nothing Ever Moves You (2017)
Spilt Cities – Life, On Hold (2017)
Perth based outfit Spilt Cities’ are bringing the goods with their full length album ‘Life, On Hold’. A fully realised body of work that is so tastefully executed that you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re some old school shoegaze post-punk group you’re older sibling used to listen to in the 90’s. Sounds too good to be true, and yet..here I am telling you..this is incredible. Continue reading Spilt Cities – Life, On Hold (2017)
Featured: Recovery Room – Interview
Sydney based emo/alternative rock band Recovery Room have recently released their first musical offering with their new EP ‘A Lesson In Letting Go’ and you can check out our review of their new EP here.
I (virtually) sat down with Dylan and Christian in a cute Facebook group chat the other day and asked them a few questions about their new project and how it all came together.
Recovery Room – A Lesson in Letting Go (2017)
Oh the nostalgia is strong on this one. Sounding like a cross between Death Cab For Cutie and Basement…the mid 00’s emo vibe is waaay big on this release and will resonate with anyone who enjoys the melodic heart-on-the-sleeve sound associated with it. It’s far from a rip off though, not a derivative genre copy. It’s a worthy new addition. I am all about this. Continue reading Recovery Room – A Lesson in Letting Go (2017)
The Sinking Teeth – Songs From The Bottom Of The Lake
Intelligent post-punk/rock that is equally full of riffs and anthems. Play it loud. Continue reading The Sinking Teeth – Songs From The Bottom Of The Lake
